What is a scan converter?
A scan converter translates a computer signal into a TV signal. Until recently televisions were unable to display a computer signal. A scan converter takes the computer or PC/SVGA signal and converts it to a more common TV signal.
Why do I need a scan converter?
If your computer of television is not the latest model, chances are they do not speak to each other. By this we mean the computer signal cannot be received by the TV. In this case you must translate the signal for the TV to display the computer screen.
Why can’t I just plug my TV into my computer?
In some cases you can use your TV as a monitor. However the TV must be able to receive a PC signal or the computer must output a TV signal. Some of the newer models of both the TV & computer have the ability to connect, but it is has not been a standard option in the past.
Why do you ask if I am in the USA or not?
Video formats differ around the world. Examples of various formats include NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) in the North America, PAL (Phase Alternating Line) in much of Europe and SECAM (Sequential Color with Memory) in Russia.
What is S-Video?
Separate Video. It is a 4-pin mini-DIN connector introduced by JVC in 1987. When looking at an S-Video plug you can tell the signal direction by an arrow pointing in or out.
What is RCA?
This is a single pin plug. The name is derived from Radio Corporation of America. It became popular in the 1950s. The standard colors are red for right channel audio, white for left channel audio & yellow for video.
What is Component Video?
This format splits a video signal into 3 plugs. They are color coded
red, green & blue (RGB). Component Video carries only video are must be paired with audio cables for sound.
What is HDMI?
High-Definition Multimedia Interface was designed by a group of seven companies in 2002. HDMI carries both video and audio signals. Video signals up to 2160p are supported.
How do I know which signal to use?
The first issue is compatibility. This requires finding a common signal between devices. That is what we help you accomplish. A video signal quality goes in this order HDMI, PC/SVGA, S-Video, Component Video then RCA video.
How do I connect the sound?
